As Naturopathic physicians we identify the cause of disease and individualize treatment to the person using natural remedies and therapies. Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability.  Naturopathic physicians are highly trained graduates of a 4 year naturopathic medical school accredited by the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education. As NDs, we view the patient as a complex system i.e., a whole person. We assist the body to heal itself through dietary modification, nutritional supplementation, botanical medicine, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation, hydrotherapy, and counseling.

Below are the 6 principles of naturopathic medicine that are the cornerstone of treatment and therapeutic modalities:
  • Primum Non Nocere (First, do no harm) Naturopathic physicians ensure their patients' safety is of the utmost importance. We are skilled in using the appropriate dosages of supplements and herbs and treatments that have little to no side effects that will cause ill health.
  • Vis Medicatrix Naturae (The healing power of nature) Our bodies have such a powerful, innate instinct for self-healing. We support this natural process and work with the body, not forcing it chemically to do what someone wants it to do.
  • Tolle Causum (Identify and treat the cause) Symptoms will only return unless the root illness is addressed. Rather than cover up symptoms, we seek to find and treat the cause of these symptoms and then remove the obstacles to cure.
  • Tolle Totum (Treat the whole person) We each have a unique physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, sexual and spiritual makeup. Treatments are uniquely tailored to the person not the disease.
  • Docere (Doctor as teacher) Naturopathic medicine believes that doctors must be educators, as well as physicians. That is why naturopathic physicians teach their patients how to eat, exercise, relax and nurture themselves physically and emotionally. They also encourage self-responsibility and work closely with each patient.
  • Praevenire (Prevention is the best cure) "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" has never been truer. By getting treatment for greater wellness, we’re less likely to need treatment for future illness. This saves time, money, pain, and heartache. It is about quality of life, not just the length of one's life.
 Personal Statement of Practice Philosophy:

"As a Christian-based Physician, I hold true to the gifts that God has given me. The gift of healing is a great blessing to have and I want to use that to help others in their health journey. I believe natural medicine is the medicine that the Lord provided for us here on Earth and we should honor that. He has blessed me with the knowledge and the availability of 2 great offices to use natural medicine to restore one's health. I practice honesty and integrity as I serve the Lord to do what He asks of me and that is to help as many as I can through Him with the use of His medicine. This is why I created F.A.I.T.H. The individual letters not only stand for how I approach addressing one's health, but also Faith is a belief. It is confidence, trust and a positive attitude that yes you can get better!" --Dr J
